SkyCity Hamilton Casino: Hours, Entry and What Is On Site
SkyCity Hamilton sits at 346 Victoria Street, in the Hamilton CBD on the banks of the Waikato River. The casino’s number is +64 7 834 4900. Entry is 20 and over, and SHOW by SkyCity is the only way to play at any SkyCity casino in New Zealand.
We read the casino’s home page and its official listings on 28 October 2026, and we went through the Gambling Act 2003 rules that apply to every casino in the country. We have not walked the floor, so what follows is the published version: hours first, then entry, the games, the card, the other venues under the same roof, and the numbers behind the pub pokies down the road.
SkyCity Hamilton Opening Hours in 2026
Open daily, with three exceptions. The doors stay shut on Christmas Day and on Good Friday. On Anzac Day the casino is closed between 3am and 1pm, then trades as usual for the rest of the day. The SkyCity Hamilton floor follows the same calendar as every other casino in the country.
Section 172 of the Gambling Act 2003 is the reason. Casinos cannot conduct gambling on Christmas Day, on Good Friday, or on Anzac Day between 3am and 1pm. If a public holiday lands inside your trip, ring +64 7 834 4900 before you set off. The hours are on the official listing, but a short call settles the awkward cases.
Who Gets In, and What to Wear
You have to be 20 or over to enter a casino in New Zealand. That figure comes from the DIA rather than from the venue, and it is the first thing applied at a casino entrance. If you are close to 20, carry photo identification.
The SkyCity Hamilton pages we could read do not set out a dress code; SkyCity’s Auckland and Queenstown casinos ask for a neat and tidy standard. SkyCity Hamilton lists restaurants and bars on the same site, so if you are booking Palate Restaurant or Shanghai Restaurant and want the detail up front, ask when you call +64 7 834 4900.
What You Can Play
Tables, machines, and a tournament calendar. The venue’s events list names a roulette tournament on 15 October 2026 and an Ultimate Texas Hold’em progressive jackpot. Both are the sort of thing that comes and goes, so the current list is the one to check.
Ultimate Texas Hold’em is a house-banked table game, played against the dealer with poker hands. If you want the version where you sit with other players, our live poker in NZ page explains how those rooms run. For the standard bets on the games you meet most often, we keep rules pages on roulette, blackjack and baccarat.
The SHOW Card and What It Unlocks
SHOW by SkyCity is the only way to play at any SkyCity casino in New Zealand. In practice the card sits between you and every machine and table, so it gets sorted before you sit down. The scheme is described on the casino’s own pages; sign-up steps and current tier benefits are worth confirming on +64 7 834 4900, since those terms move.
Food, Drink and What Else Is Inside
One address, several rooms. Bowl & Social is Hamilton’s only full-sized bowling alley and it carries arcade games alongside the lanes. Then there is EAT Burger, The Local Taphouse, and Number Eight Bar, which sits next to the casino floor. Amuse Bar & Kitchen is inside the casino itself. Shanghai Restaurant and Palate Restaurant round out the site.
Limits, Breaks and Getting Yourself Out
Under section 310 of the Gambling Act 2003, a casino must issue an exclusion order on request, and that order bars the person from the gambling area for up to two years. You ask the casino, and the request is enough. It is a written tool with a fixed term,.
SkyCity’s Host Responsibility team answers 24 hours a day on 0800 SKYCITY, that is 0800 759 2489. The Gambling Helpline is 0800 654 655, with free text on 8006. Complaints about casino gambling are handled by the DIA’s casino gambling inspectors. More on all of it sits on our responsible gambling page.
Pub Pokies Around the City
DIA figures from June 2026 count 23 venues with 355 machines across Hamilton city pubs and clubs – a different crowd and a different scale from the Victoria Street floor. We keep a running list on the Hamilton pokies page, and there is a wider index at pokies near me if you are driving out of town.
Online Casinos and the New Zealand Licence Auction
No new casino venue licences will be issued here, and the DIA says so plainly. Online is where the movement is. In October 2026 the Department of Internal Affairs auctioned the right to apply for up to 15 online casino licences, and SkyCity NZ Online NO1 Limited and SkyCity NZ Online NO2 Limited are among the 11 entities holding that right. Licences are expected from early 2027.
We track the timetable on our new online casinos page, and the framework itself sits under gambling law. The NZ casino section covers the venues operating on the ground.
